DIY Table Saw Jig for Straightening Crooked Boards

If you've ever struggled with warped or crooked boards, this simple table saw jig will help you straighten them quickly and safely.

Materials Needed:

  • 1/2" or 3/4" plywood (for the jig base)

  • Straight hardwood or MDF strip (for the fence)

  • Wood screws or bolts

  • Clamps (optional)

  • Measuring tape & square

  • Table saw

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Build the Jig Base

  • Cut a piece of plywood slightly wider than your workpiece (e.g., 12" x 24").

  • Ensure one edge is perfectly straight—this will ride against the table saw fence.

2. Attach the Fence

  • Secure a straight hardwood or MDF strip perpendicular to the base, forming an "L" shape.

  • Check for squareness with a carpenter’s square.

  • Screw or bolt the fence in place.

3. Set Up the Jig on the Table Saw

  • Place the jig on the table saw with the straight edge against the fence.

  • Adjust the fence so the blade lines up with the edge of the jig base.

4. Straighten the Crooked Board

  • Place the crooked board against the jig’s fence, ensuring the bowed side faces outward.

  • Run the jig and board through the saw, trimming off the uneven edge.

  • Flip the board and repeat if needed for parallel edges.

5. Safety Tips

  • Use push sticks to keep hands clear of the blade.

  • Ensure the board is firmly pressed against the fence.

  • Make shallow cuts if dealing with severe warping.

This jig turns a frustrating task into a quick and repeatable process. Happy woodworking!
