Be sure to remember this Tip from Experienced Plumbers! Few people know this technique.

Here’s a pro plumber tip that most DIYers don’t know—but it can save you from leaks, cracks, and costly repairs:

"Always Hand-Tighten First, Then Give a Quarter Turn with a Wrench"

When connecting pipes, fittings, or valves, overtightening is a common mistake that can crack fittings or strip threads. Instead:

  1. Hand-tighten first until snug.

  2. Use a wrench for just an extra ¼ turn—no more!

This ensures a watertight seal without damaging the material. Many leaks happen not from under-tightening but from cracks caused by excessive force.

Bonus Tip: For threaded PVC, use Teflon tape + pipe dope (thread sealant) for a bulletproof seal.

Remember: Tight ≠ Right. A little finesse goes a long way!
